The Demi Cuccia M.S.F would like to thank all of those who helped out with, played in and attended the 1st annual "A Round For Demi" Golf Outing/Dinner Party. To say it was a success would be an understatement. We had 134 golfers and 125 of Demi's friends and family attend the event which was held Saturday, October 6 at the Murrysville Golf Club. A great time was had by all and we are looking forward to seeing all of you again for next years event. 1985 Gateway Varsity Football team selected for Gateway HOF

The 1985 Gateway Varsity Football team will be inducted into the Gateway Sports Hall of Fame on November 10, 2007 at the Churchill Valley Country Club. This team will now join Gateways' other four football championship teams - 1969 - 1972 - 1974 - 1986. The 1985 team tied North Hills 0-0 in the championship game at Three Rivers Stadium. At the time, North Hills was ranked nationally. Gateway was extremely fast and very solid up front. The teams matched up well.

If you were a coach, team member, trainer or manager, we are holding a complimentary ticket for you. To reserve your ticket and purchase additional tickets for $40.00, call Tony Petrocelli at 412-373-3373. John Washington is working closely with the HOF committee regarding the team induction ceremony and team bio. If you have any questions for John, call him at 412-373-2535.

Calling All Gateway Alumni...

I'm organizing, hosting & DJ'ing a fundraising dinner on Sunday, October 21, 2007 for a girl named Shelly Pearson.

Download the flyer here

www.helpshellyan.com
She had the very first pediatric double lung transplant in the country at Children's back in 89. Sadly, 18 years later, her body is rejecting the organs! She will need another miracle. Her mom Darlien left her life behind in Tacoma, WA to be by the side of her 32 year old "baby girl". Costs are ENORMOUS, so I thought I could help. I have the Gateway Clipper Fleet reserved for a benefit dinner cruise & auction on the date above! I NEED YOUR HELP spreading the word, and getting donations from local businesses. I'm also working hard to secure a few PREMIER prizes that will help me sell 540 tickets (Majestic capacity) at $100 per plate! I'm begging anyone with contacts in the automotive sales or local sports industries to request a generous donation!!!! Car/truck for auction, ticket packages, autographed merchandise etc... Also looking for official sponsors (this will be in the news)! Any and ALL assistance greatly appreciated! Please call 412.266.5089 or email djmattp@comcast.net with good news! You may also contact my wife Melody @ melodyporter@comcast.net or 412.216.6044 to purchase your tickets for this event. Sincerely, Matt Porter

Tragedy hits Gateway community...

Our prayers and condolences go out to the families of these youths...
Demi Cuccia, 16, a junior, was stabbed to death Wednesday, August 15 off route 22 in Monroeville. Her 19-year-old former boyfriend, John Mullarkey, was found nearby after apparently trying to kill himself with a knife.

Target clock with 1983 yearbook photos!

Target clock Lisa (Corl) Zapalac, Gateway Class of 83 sent us this tidbit:

I just came across this while I was in Target spring of 2006 and noticed this clock on the shelves that caught my attention because it looked like old yearbook photos. The clock was designed to put your own photos in them where the numbers would be. When I looked closer, I realized that the stock photos were a page out of the Gateway yearbook - and the photos were seniors from the class of 83. I bought the clock and emailed a few people who's faces were on it, and put it up. I got a new scanner and was cleaning out a closet today and found it, so I took it apart and scanned the pictures as they are arranged on the clock. I couldn't believe it. Of all of the photos that Target Corp. could have used it was a page from our high school year book and my class. And it was in a Target in Houston!

I wanted to send it to you and didn't know if there is anyway to post this, I am sure people would get a kick out of it. I also think that some Gateway grad must work for Target at the corporate level :)

Monroeville dealt blow by Westinghouse

03/21/2007:
Monroeville's largest employer - Westinghouse, who has been a staple in the community for more than 35 years, has dealt a big blow to Monroeville - and Gateway School District - by deciding to move to Cranberry Township. The big winners - Butler County and Seneca Valley School District, will reap the rewards of a 3,000+ person workforce headed their way by 2009/2010 and taking their $70,000 average salaries with them to Butler county. By leaving the 138 acre campus where many of our mothers, fathers, neighbors and classmates worked, Westinghouse will leave a large void in Monroeville. The repercussions of this decision by Westinghouse not only impacts Monroeville, but also surrounding communities and school districts, such as Churchill, Penn Hills, Plum, Murrysville, Penn Township, and others, where many of the 2,100 Monroeville based employees live.

Michael O'Toole - past Principal at Gateway

Tuesday, December 19, 2006

By Eleanor Chute, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Retired Gateway Elementary School principal Bruce Short can still picture Michael O'Toole, then principal of Gateway High School, sitting at his desk in his office with a cigar in his mouth.

"He always told you the way it was," Mr. Short said. "He was firm but fair."

Mr. O'Toole, who died at the age of 89 at Braddock Hospital on Sunday, was a no-nonsense principal.

A/V Crew (remember, the people who delivered the film strip projectors, VCR's and 16mm projectors to your classrooms), and the Biology Club have been added to your EXTENDED PROFILE as new choices of clubs & activities.

The LEFT NAVIGATION has been updated a bit, as well as the MEMBER HOME PAGE, where we added a new area "who updated their profile" so that you can see who updated their profile since your last visit.

How YOU can help...

January 9, 2006
Thank you to all the alumni who have signed up so far...

We've had great success, but we really need a few minutes of your time in the following ways:

1) Forward this site's address www.gatewaygators.net to any Gateway Alumni FAMILY MEMBER, FRIEND, etc. This is a GREAT TIME to reconnect with a Graduate you haven't spoken to or heard from for a while.

2) If you are a member of a "Class Committee", please forward this web site along with an invitation to join to your entire list. We will be glad to post your committee info to this site, but we are trying to build the "one point" master directory of all Gateway alumni.

3) If you have or are part of a Gateway affiliate site, such as Gateway Soccer, Gateway Band, etc. Please POST A LINK from that site to our site. Let us know you are doing this and we will link back to you.

4) If anyone has a CD-ROM version of the Gateway Alumni directory which was published around 1998, Please Contact Us

Important info about the authentication emails...
When you initially Join this site, you will receive an automated email with an authentication link. You must click that link to get full access to the site.

Unfortunately, we are experiencing about a 10% failure rate on the automated emails... mostly due to Spam filtering beyond our control. In most cases the emails are blocked by your ISP or are moved right into your JUNK MAIL FOLDER.

If you JOIN this site and don't receive an authentication email WITHIN 10 MINUTES, please contact Us and we can manually authorize you.

GatewayGators.net is one month old!

Site update 1/6: The interactive map has been rewritten to be much quicker. So many people signed up we had to re-engineer it to be quick. While we were at it we also added the ability to filter the map by class year...

Check out our Class Contacts, Classifieds & Memorials & Lost-n-Found pages...

These pages - which can be found in the left navigation - are for YOU to post messages to your fellow alumni... Make use of them!
