Anne Callanan Petersen receives "Honor"and EMTI Status
Anne (Callanan) Petersen, class of 1999, recently was selected by the National Park Service to serve as part of the NPS Ranger Honor Guard for a two year term.
The Honor Guard represents the Nat'l Park Service and its employees and families at employee funerals where the loss is suffered in the line of duty. The Honor Guard is also deployed to ceremonies, parades, and special events of national significance, or at any function at the request of the Director, where a highly trained precision color guard is needed to represent the Service in an extraordinarily dignified manner. The Ranger Honor Guard is fully staffed, readily equipped and highly trained, and is immediately available when called upon.
Ranger Petersen will train at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glencoe, GA. at the end of March 2007. Following training, she will report back to her home park, Grand Canyon N.P, to continue her job as a back country law enforcement ranger. When the Honor Guard is called, she will go where needed with the rest of the guard.
Anne also recently completed an intensive 6 week training in Fresno, CA for further training as a Park Medic. Every other year the park service selects 20 rangers from the entire park service to attend this training. While there, the rangers learn skills from interns, residents and professors at Fresno Medical Center, work in the emergency room, delivery room, and participate in ambulance runs throughout the area. Following practical skills tests as well as written tests, the ranger candidates are evaluated and awarded Emergency Medical Technician I, Park Medic status. Anne finished first in her class with high marks in all areas. These advanced life saving skills will come in handy in her job at Grand Canyon.
